"The

"Children
should be
seen
and not heard!"
Okay,
maybe there should be one exception to this rule. <smile>
After
all, it would be a shame to miss seeing *and* hearing our site's
videos of excellent young musicians playing the music of "the
best of the best" (composers of classical music)!

"Classical
Music should
be
heard
and not seen!"
Those
who held to the old-fashioned "rule" that "Children
Should Be Seen and Not Heard," have completely capitulated.
But Classical Music has meekly abided by the "rule"
that, almost always, it Should Be Heard and Not Seen! It's
a fact that more people, by far, hear Classical Music
when they find themselves in such places as elevators and the
like (where people come together with no intention whatever of
listening to Classical Music), than hear and see Classical
Music performed in a symphony hall, or in a private home, or on
a DVD. (*Imagine* ... the most elevating music
in the world, relegated to *this* fate!)
For all but a *tiny* portion of the world's population, Classical
Music has never fully emerged from "The Radio Age."
The *modern* world is extremely visual in its orientation.
But the vast majority of Classical Music arrives upon
the world's doorsteps in aural form only. It's a wonderful thing
to hear, say, Beethoven's Appassionata or Waldstein piano sonatas.
But to merely hear the sounds, and be unable to *see*
what's required of the pianist's fingers (and hands, and arms,
and entire *body*!) is as limited as being carted through the
woods blindfolded, and never getting to see or touch anything,
but only to listen to the sounds!
It is absurd for Classical Music, which features such immense
*visual* beauty, to continue to bow and scrape its way around
the background of people's lives, like some sort of ghost whose
presence is known *only* by the sounds it occasionally makes!
WE REQUEST
that Youth and Youthful please help us bring Classical Music into
the modern, visually-oriented world!
JOIN
US
in the creation of the renaissance of Classical Music which is
being made possible by such modern technologies as DVDs, video-conferencing,
internet broadcasting and "vidcasting"!

How
to Introduce Children to Classical Music .. and Why!!
These
RiceHouse presentations are part seminar, part concert.
Come
and attend one "in person," if you can. Or ...
pretty soon, we'll have these programs available in video formats,
such as DVD and streaming video, and we'll also be setting up
live video-conferencing events. (Isn't modern technology
absolutely *amazing*?!)

Biographies
of
the
Great Composers of Classical Music
(right
here on this site!)
The
more we've listened to and played their music, and allowed them
to *speak* to us through the music they've written, the better
we've gotten to *know* these amazing individuals, and to consider
them to be our *friends*. We decided, here at RiceHouse,
to learn as much as possible about them, and to write
about what we've learned, so we can share that knowledge with
*you*!

PERFORMANCES
by
The
Rice Brothers
Our
Goal:
To
be "in concert" with the people of our community, so
that we encourage one another in the creation of the widest possible
range of "beautiful music" in our region, so that *every*
person's "beautiful music" will emerge in all its glory,
and be a blessing to all of our citizenry, as well as all who
come in contact with us.
What
has it meant to us to be "in concert" in and with our
community in the past, and how might we participate with one another
in the future?

A
few thoughts and ideas about "the beautiful music possibility"...
What's
the best way to discover, nurture and bring forth the beautiful
music in children?
What
role must education play?
What
role must the adults in a child's life play?
(These
matters are of great interest to us here at RiceHouse. We
invite you to participate with us in discussing these topics!)

Due
to the limitations of available space on this site (digital video takes
up a lot of cyber-territory!) we generally include only a portion
of the full performances which we have recorded. We try to include
enough to provide the flavor of the composition you're listening to!
If your family wishes to see and hear some of the full performances, we
will be happy to make arrangements to provide you with an individualized
DVD!
